Russ Hague - 1968 Roadrunner
I found this numbers matching Roadrunner in Lexington , Kentucky in October of 2006. This car was originally purchased at York Brothers Chrysler Plymouth in Crossville , Tennessee in the summer of 1968. The fender tag shows
a born date of July 13, 1968 so it was one of the last 1968's built. The car came with lots of documentation to include the original buildsheet, certicard, and original owner's manual.
The Roadrunner was originally a 383 car with an automatic transmission and 3.23 Sure Grip rear end. The original color was mist green (FF1). In November 2008, I decided to have the engine rebuilt and the engine compartment restored to how it looked in the showroom in 1968.
I turned to my good friend Chris Johnson who did an outstanding job on the engine build and restoration. Performance Connection, who bored the engine .030 over, turned the crank and balanced the motor and completed the machine work. Chris installed new 10.5:1 Keith Black pistons, a hotter Comp Cam and changed the intake manifold. He also did all the painting under the hood including the block. Lastly, we installed a new 3.91 gear set to give the car a little more get up and go!
The car came out beautiful and I look forward to the car shows this year to see how she does.
