Charger SE
I originally purchased this car in 1994
on Kirtland AFB for $200. It sat in my backyard for two
years before I even started to work on it. I finally finished
the new racing engine I had built for my 74 Duster and
the old engine I had races for nine years promptly went
into this Charger. I also rebuilt the transmission myself
along with the brakes and electrical system just to make
it a driver. I finally got tired of looking at a piece
of junk that ran three years ago, and started tearing
the car apart for restoration (frame on). The car features
a .30 over 440 4 bbl. (originally a 383 which I still
have on an engine stand) with closed chamber heads, console
shift 727 automatic, wood grain dash, factory A/C, recovered
seats, new carpet, complete steering rebuild, new exhaust,
and B.F. Goodrich radial 60 TA tires mounted on Magnum
500 rims.
Many thanks go out to the various people who have helped
me out in this very time consuming project. Chris Lopez,
Jose Marquez and Auge's Paint and Body Shop for their
excellent work. Brian Bently for applying the original
Sun Fire Yellow paint and new top (in my driveway). Lastly,
Keith Shurtz for all of the small parts you just can't
find around town these days (at a great price too!). The
car finally drove down the road on its own in August 2000
after countless hours of detailing and garage time and
it runs great!! I can see why Mopar called it "the
Road Hugger" when they first came out.
